Classic indie rockers: The Malakites
Come along with me to indie rock band The Malakites' gig at Clwb Ifor Bach
On Thursday night The Malakites headlined Clwb Ifor Bach, alongside rising stars The Ratoons (stay tuned) and The Rogues. This gig was part of their 2025 tour for their debut album ‘FAMILIAR FACES.’
So far all they’ve given us as a preview is their new single ‘Lucy,’ which features… shock horror… THE PIANO. Which is a bit of a different vibe from their usual indie rock sound.
This tour comes after a rejig of the band, they now welcome Woody Gray, their new drummer, alongside band mates Dan Rizzo (bass), Thibault Segrott (guitar) and Jacob Webber (singer/guitar). I’ve got to say the transition has been pretty seamless and the band’s chemistry is still very much alive and well.
Their highly anticipated upcoming album has been a long time coming, as they formed back in 2019, but as they said in a recent interview, “every single song on the EP belongs together, and they deserve to be living in the same house.”
Gig Review
I headed down to Clwb to see the band, alongside my friends and brother. The set was a mix of their previous EPs, and tracks from their upcoming album. A stand out for me was definitely ‘Would I lie to you,’ which singer, Jacob Webber posted a sneak peek of on his Instagram over the summer. This song was a change up from the rest of the set, as the rest of the band left the stage, leaving Webber standing alone. Funny enough, this is one of the only songs not featured in the great vlog of the show, was just too busy listening to the music, I guess?
The energy of the crowd showed how loved The Malakites really are in their hometown. Some knew all of the words to their older songs like ‘Roses on the Doorstep’ and seemed super into their new stuff too.
Watch some of the set here, and stay til the end for my brother and his friend’s review:
The Malakites are back and better than ever, kicking off their UK tour in Birmingham on March 14th, sadly they were too hungover for an interview…rip.
